The panel, featuring Matt Wilson (President and CEO of Light & Wonder), Todd Eilers (Founder of Eilers & Krejcik Gaming), and Lee Turfloth (Chief Interactive Officer for Gaming at Delaware North), discussed market trends, regulatory changes, and strategic focuses. Key topics included the shift toward proprietary games over licensed content, the evolution of omnichannel gaming experiences, and the contraction of the sportsbook market. The panelists also addressed the rise of new game types like crash games, the importance of digital payments in casinos, and the aging demographic of slot players. They concluded by sharing their outlooks for the gaming industry through 2030, emphasizing the expansion of regulated gaming markets and the continued dominance of slot games.

Gaming Industry Strategic Evolution

Matt discussed the gaming industry's evolution over the past five years, highlighting how the pandemic disrupted the traditional market and led to the emergence of new gaming verticals beyond the traditional Class 3 casino customers. He explained Light & Wonder's strategic pivot in 2021 to focus solely on game development across multiple markets, including land-based gaming, VLT markets, social casino, and iGaming, after divesting their lottery and sports businesses. Matt emphasized that this focused approach allows the company to concentrate on their core competency of building great games while expanding into various gaming segments.
